Activities, and Mission

DACO members meet throughout the year to network, socialize and hear distinguished sports-related guest speakers. "..coaches Lou Holtz, and Bobby Knight, golfers Arnold Palmer, Peter Jacobson, Cy Young award winning pritcher Orel Hershiser, and John Lynch of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers." The club also honors 20 outstanding male and female Central Florida high school seniors at its Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet.

The Downtown Athletic club of Orlando presents the Butkus Award® annually in December to the nation's outstanding collegiate linebacker.

The mission of the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando is to recognize, encourage and promote amateur athletics and academic excellence.
Encourage all student scholar-athletes to graduate and continue their education and athletic endeavors.
Provide scholarship funds for needy high school student athletes with proven scholarship capabilities.
Provide funds to help support Pop Warner Little Scholars and Cheerleaders, organizing on a national and local level, with the goal of motivating young people to participate in sports and stay in school.
Provide funds for community sports-related programs and awards banquets with the intent to positively motivate people to support both athletics and education.
